Sept. 7, Opening Reception, 6 - 8 p.m. thru Oct. 5, 2017
Award Recipients selected Frederick H. Gaige Memorial Exhibit chosen by jurors Bob Stickloon and Janie Trusky, both faculty in the arts at Penn State. The artists are: Ed McCarty, who works with pen and ink and water colors; Laura Gelsomini, painter; and Joe Szimhart, painter and our guest lecturer.
SPECIAL EVENT in conjunction with the exhibition: Sept. 7, 8 p.m. – Lecture, 8 p.m., by Joe Szimhart. Mr. Szimhart is an artist, author, lecturer and mental health professional and a specialist in cult information, intervention, and education and is internationally recognized in his profession. Lecture begins immediately after the reception, in the Auditorium at 8 p.m.

Oct. 10 – Oct. 11 – Chinese Brush Painting presented by Yue Li. Li, an international student from China, is majoring in finance. Her father is an artist, painting traditional brush paintings. Chinese painting is one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. Li will be presenting a series of her father’s work, and demonstrating Chinese caligraphy on Oct. 10 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Oct. 11, from 12 noon to 2:30, we will be having the Mid-Autumn Chinese event with a presentation and some Chinese refreshments.
Oct. 19 Opening Reception, 6 - 8 p.m. thru Nov. 16, 2017 Bob Stickloon, artist - Instructor in Painting, Penn State Schuylkill. He served as juror for the Spring 2017 Frederick H. Gaige Memorial Exhibit. Beautifully rendered, realistic images of clothing, flowers, and seed packets are larger than life and present these homey items on a grand, impressive scale.

Nov. 2 Day of the Dead, Días de los Muertos - 6 p.m. MPR – This event features a presentation by Dr. Cesar Martinez-Garza, Professor of Math and a native of Mexico. Always informative and surprising, his presentation traces the roots of this unique Mexican celebration from its beginnings to today. Mexican refreshments’ and festivities included.
